Artist's Description

One day, I was driving my then 2 year old son to daycare. Each day, the half hour ride would take us past farm after farm, and fields filled with sheep, goats, and cattle. Cotton fields were also a familiar sight.

I said to my son, 'take a good look around and try to remember this, one day it will all be gone'.

Fast forward 25 years.

Unfortunately, my prediction was correct. Oh, a stray field survives here and there, but for the most part, much of the agricultural land was sold to developers who paid a pretty penny for the acres and acres of farmland.

I don't blame the farmers for selling, nor do I resent the builders for building. I live in one of those new homes, but I do miss the fields and the animals.

I took a photograph of a cornfield a few years ago. That field is gone but I've painted this one as a tribute to its memory.

One less cornfield in Gilbert, Arizona.

About Karyn Robinson

Karyn Robinson

Robinson grew up in the midwest and has lived in Arizona with her husband Jeff for more than 25 years. "When we moved to the southwest I was immediately taken with the desert's exotic beauty. Where some see only rocks and dirt, I see majesty. I love the sculptural shapes of the cacti and the way light and shadow plays on their forms." In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play. "Sometimes I feel that there is not enough time in the day to paint everything I want to paint. I'm so captivated by this wonderful, beautiful world. If I can just continue to paint and share my work with...
