I love your story, Bob. As an artist I always hope to touch people in some way with my art. I'm glad this work brought forth this memory and so happy that you shared it with me!

Paid my way to a BA, then MA, by taking photos of children in their homes with a Rolli.. With the MA, paid for my PhD, but without the Rolli, and the US Army where began school again with the United States Armed Forces Institute. would probably still be a High School dropout, who quit school at 15, then went in the army at 16....

Thank you, Meghan. I thought the strap gave the painting an Art Nouveau quality. Thank you for your kind words.

Artist's Description

karyn Robinson, Gilbert, Arizona.

I love old, mechanical things, with dials and switches. That's why I love old cameras. This is a painting of a Rolleiflex View camera, introduced, I believe, in 1949 featuring "the original twin-lens reflex". An advertisement from the day boasted, "In all fine photographic collections, most places of distinction are held by Rolleiflex pictures." I don't know if that's true...I just dig old cameras.

According to an article on Wikipedia,The Rolleiflex TLR film cameras were notable for their exceptional build quality, compact size, modest weight, superior optics, durable, simple, reliable mechanics and bright viewfinders. They were popular and widely imitated. The high-quality 7.5 cm focal length lenses, manufactured by Zeiss and Schneider, allowed for a smaller, lighter, more compact camera than their imitators[citation needed], further differentiating the Rolleiflex TLR from many of its competitors, who were forced by inferior opti...

About Karyn Robinson

Karyn Robinson

Robinson grew up in the midwest and has lived in Arizona with her husband Jeff for more than 25 years. "When we moved to the southwest I was immediately taken with the desert's exotic beauty. Where some see only rocks and dirt, I see majesty. I love the sculptural shapes of the cacti and the way light and shadow plays on their forms." In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play. "Sometimes I feel that there is not enough time in the day to paint everything I want to paint. I'm so captivated by this wonderful, beautiful world. If I can just continue to paint and share my work with...
