Artist's Description
Karyn Robinson, Gilbert, Arizona
This painting features an architectural detail from Mission, San Xavier del Bac in Tucson, Arizona. The mission is called the White Dove of the Desert and the white stucco structure is striking against an Arizona blue sky. The same family has been making the stucco/lime mixture for the mission for many, many years.
A Brief History of Mission San Xavier del Bac, (reprinted from the website, http://www.sanxaviermission.org/History.html)
A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797.
The oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. It is a place where visitors can truly step back in time and enter an authentic 18th Century space.
The church retains its original purpose of ministering...

In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play. "Sometimes I feel that there is not enough time in the day to paint everything I want to paint. I'm so captivated by this wonderful, beautiful world. If I can just continue to paint and share my work with...
