Artist's Description

Karyn Robinson, Gilbert, Arizona.

The paintings in my southwestern gallery are among the first I created when I started painting. As my skill developed I wanted to try new things and different styles. Looking back, I think my southwestern workis are my best. It is unique in style and vision.

This whimsical prickly pear is painted in brilliant turquoise, terracotta, greens and golds and is set against a majestic purple background. It combines my love of abstract and the sculptural shape of cacti.

The colors that I chose are the folors I most closely associate with the desert, turquoise from Native American jewelry, terracotta from Mexican pottert and orange and purple from our desert sunsets.

In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play. "Sometimes I feel that there is not enough time in the day to paint everything I want to paint. I'm so captivated by this wonderful, beautiful world. If I can just continue to paint and share my work with...
