Artist's Description

My husband and I live close enough to California to travel to San Diego for long weekend getaways. Lately, we've started taking the train to explore the coastal towns like Carlsbad and Encinitas. Avoiding the highway traffic is a big plus too.

I've never lived where transportation by rail is an everyday event and I am so impressed with the California transportation system.

The Coaster is so affordable and convenient. For a good part of the stretch of rail that goes from Oceanside to downtown San Diego you get to watch the beautiful beaches and coastline roll by.

This is the scene I saw when exiting the historic Santa Fe Depot. Immediately the two, bright yellow lines jumped out at me. And then there's all that blue. It was a gorgeous, San Diego summer afternoon and I knew within seconds the scene before me would soon become a painting.

Robinson grew up in the midwest and has lived in Arizona with her husband Jeff for more than 25 years. "When we moved to the southwest I was immediately taken with the desert's exotic beauty. Where some see only rocks and dirt, I see majesty. I love the sculptural shapes of the cacti and the way light and shadow plays on their forms." In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play.
