I love this old sign and everything about it...the type face, the faux plank background and the neon. This sign also features a beautiful image of a woman in a polka dot bikini which is also available on my site. The two photos work well together.
Hotels and motels like this one popped up all over the southwest in the 50's as the interstate roadway system expanded. Families could now venture west for vacation. That was also the era of the neon sign boasting, 'It's Cold Inside!" or "Color TV". Unfortunately, few of the classics still exist. We're lucky to have this sign so well maintianed and hanging proudly in Tucson, Arizona
About Karyn Robinson
Robinson grew up in the midwest and has lived in Arizona with her husband Jeff for more than 25 years. "When we moved to the southwest I was immediately taken with the desert's exotic beauty. Where some see only rocks and dirt, I see majesty. I love the sculptural shapes of the cacti and the way light and shadow plays on their forms." In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play.
