Artist's Description

"That Man on the Beach" by Karyn Robinson.

I am a huntress who chases down her prey. Case in point...last year Jeff and I were riding bikes near the Santa Monica pier when I saw a man in a business suit take off across the beach.

The beach? A place to play. The pier? A place to have fun. A man in a suit trudging across the beach, his Brunello Cucinelli shoes filling with sand, just seemed out of place, and to my artist's eye, perfect.

I ditched the bike, grabbed my phone, and took off running. The image I captured wasn't great, but it gave me the information I needed.

I'd love to know why he was there, what he was looking for, and what he was thinking. But that's the great thing about art. As the viewer, you get to decide.

My approach to this painting was inspired by David Hockney, a British born artist who also found inspiration in California.

In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play. "Sometimes I feel that there is not enough time in the day to paint everything I want to paint. I'm so captivated by this wonderful, beautiful world. If I can just continue to paint and share my work with...
