'Victorian Shadows', an original oil painting by Karyn Robinson.

I am a lover of architecture so when I found a cluster of lovingly preserved Victorian homes I was thrilled.

Not only were the homes beautiful, but the artist in me was completely taken with the shadows that were being cast by the San Diego sun. I especially loved the shadow of the gingerbread detail over the old porch.

So when an artist comes upon a scene as wonderful as this there's only one thing to do.

Robinson grew up in the midwest and has lived in Arizona with her husband Jeff for more than 25 years. "When we moved to the southwest I was immediately taken with the desert's exotic beauty. Where some see only rocks and dirt, I see majesty. I love the sculptural shapes of the cacti and the way light and shadow plays on their forms." In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play.
