If you have ever been fortunate enough to the the desert in the spring time then you'll appreciate this prickly pear blossom. Painted in a brilliant yellow against a striking blue background. This piece really makes a beautiful statement in any room.
Did you know many parts of a prickly pear plant are edible? Mexicans and the people of Central American have made prickly pear a staple of their diet for thousands of years. It has been gaining popularity as an exotic, gourmet and healthy addition to one's diet.
You can consume the pad of the cactus (nopal), which can be prepared like a vegetable, the petals of the flower can be added to salads, and the pear (tuna), can be treated like a fruit. They grow wild throughout the American southwest, down to South America and up to Canada. Any prickly pear you buy at the grocery story will surely come from a prickly pear farm.
